About Joelyn
Singer-songwriter. Guitarist. Pismo Beach local. Forty-some years into a life in music, still writing every song she sings.
Joelyn Lutz picked up a guitar as a teenager and never really put it down. In the 1980s she played lead guitar in Teazer, an all-woman rock band whose album Now or Never is still in her catalog. The songs then were about the usual things: falling in and out of love, loud and fast.
The years after the band took her into teaching. She taught voice and guitar to students of all ages, and somewhere in that stretch her own writing changed. The subjects widened out to connection, nature, gratitude, and what it means to treat each other well. The sound widened too, pulling in country, jazz, R&B, and world rhythms alongside the rock she started with.
Her solo albums trace that arc: Peacemaker, Listen to the Groove, Just Breathe, A Matter of Zen, and most recently All of Us. Beginning with Just Breathe, everything has been recorded and performed in 432 Hz tuning, a slightly lower concert pitch she describes as a healing vibration.
Today Joelyn lives in Pismo Beach and performs regularly on the pier, a short walk from home. She also plays house concerts, wineries, restaurants, wellness retreats, and private events anywhere within about three hours, from Monterey and Santa Cruz down through San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Santa Maria, and Santa Barbara to Ventura. She performs originals only, so no two audiences get quite the same evening.
Off stage she streams live sets and posts clips on TikTok and Instagram as @j_lutz_, and runs a small line of apparel and mugs built around her album artwork.
